Lava supports the agency by providing PR support to the Innovation Team, Small Loans For Business, the Climate Resilience Programme, the iFestival, the Survive & Thrive campaign and the Sustainable Construction iNet.
emda is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England, set up in 1999, to bring a regional focus to economic development. Its primary goal is to increase the economic growth of the region while reducing disparities between the East Midlands and other English regions.
emda's key role is to be the strategic driver of sustainable economic development. emda works in partnership with public, private and voluntary organisations to deliver the goals of the Regional Economic Strategy, which it produces on behalf of the region — and is why the agency is the catalyst for change in the East Midlands.
emda's vision is that by 2020 the East Midlands will be a flourishing region. A region made up of growing and innovative businesses. A region where skilled people are employed in good quality jobs. A region where we all feel part of healthy, inclusive communities and live in thriving, attractive places.
Enterprise UK
Enterprise UK gives people the skills, confidence and ambition to be enterprising, through four programmes of work promoting enterprise for now and for the future, globally and locally.
It was founded as a campaigning organisation in 2004 by the British Chambers of Commerce, the Confederation of British Industry, the Institute of Directors and the Federation of Small Businesses. Back then, Enterprise UK was known as Enterprise Insight.
Primarily funded by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) and with Peter Jones as its Chair, Enterprise UK is best known for running the Make Your Mark campaign, which encourages enterprising activity among young people and co-founding Global Entrepreneurship Week.
iFestival
The Innovation Festival (iFestival) was first introduced by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and East Midlands Innovation in 2007.
The festival, now a six week celebration of innovation, encourages businesses to think and act differently in order to increase their profitability.
In 2009, as part of the third annual iFestival, over 170 events were staged across the East Midlands during March and April.
High profile guest speakers, such as Gerald Ratner, Richard Farleigh, Rachel Elnaugh, Guy Browning and Luke Johnson joined thousands of others in attending events aimed to educate and inspire in equal measure.
Born out of the Regional Innovation Strategy, itself part of the Regional Economic Strategy, the iFestival is delivered by the East Midlands’ four Innovation Networks and over 80 regional partners and stakeholders.
Innovation Advice and Guidance

Innovation is considered by Lincolnshire’s public sector partners to be crucial to the county’s development and prosperity. Developed as part of the Lincolnshire Economic Strategy, the Programme is part of the county’s contribution to the East Midlands Regional Innovation Strategy.
ANGLE, the international venture management company focusing on the commercialisation of technology and innovation, is delivering the Innovation Advice and Guidance programme in Lincolnshire on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council. Funding for the programme is provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which is managed in the region by East Midlands Development Agency and Lincolnshire Councty Council through Single Programme funding.

Small Loans For Business
Small Loans For Business (formerly EnterpriseLoans East Midlands) provides loans to both existing entrepreneurs and people starting up in business.
Established by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and managed by First Enterprise Business Agency, Small Loans For Business exists to provide financial support to individuals with a viable business idea who require finance. This includes those in disadvantaged communities and under-represented groups along with start-up businesses and more established firms struggling to raise finance.

Stormsaver
Stormsaver is one of the UK’s leading specialist designers and installers of rainwater harvesting systems.
Founded in 2003, Stormsaver has grown rapidly and it has designed over 300 bespoke systems, across four key sectors: commercial, industrial, education and housing. Its cutting edge systems are specified by over half of the UK’s Top 150 construction companies for end users such as ASDA, Sainsbury's, Royal Mail and B&Q.
Stormsaver attributes its impressive growth to its holistic approach. Not only will the company work with its clients to design a bespoke system, Stormsaver will also commission and maintain an installed solution.
Complying fully with health and safety legislation and building regulations, Stormsaver’s pressurised and non-pressurised systems allow clients to demonstrate their environmental credentials and save money at the same time. ASDA’s Scottish distribution centre, for example, has the potential to save £8,000 per annum thanks to its Stormsaver system.
The rainwater harvested by the Stormsaver system can be used in a variety of ways; from WC and urinal flushing; laundry; irrigation and landscape watering; cooling and sprinkler systems; and vehicle washing.
Rainwater harvesting is still a relatively new concept in UK building but it is not a new idea. Continental architects and builders have been collecting, treating and using rainwater within buildings for many years.
Now, with the potential to save many thousands of pounds, the UK construction industry is waking up to the benefits of rainwater harvesting, such as cheaper utility bills, a lower carbon footprint and the ability to reuse one of the UK's most common resources.

The Orders of St John Care Trust
The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) was established in 1991 as a not for profit charitable trust. It is the second largest not for profit care provider in the UK, currently operating 74 homes in four counties. It is responsible for the care of some 3,300 residents and employs around 3,500 staff.
The Trust delivers a broad range of care services, including residential, nursing and dementia care. It also provides intermediate, respite and day care. This is reflected in the Trust’s new homes development programme and the training given to its staff.
The Trust is sponsored by two Orders – the Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of Jerusalem, Rhodes & Malta and the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. Between them, these two Orders bring a combined total of over 1,000 years of experience in care, relief and service. Today, they provide the Trustees for The Orders of St John Care Trust.
Unleashing Enterprise
Unleashing Enterprise is leading the way in developing enterprise skills among young people across the East Midlands.

While emda manages the project on a daily basis, the partnership is represented by the Unleashing Enterprise Steering Group. This Steering Group comprises members from across the region and reflects the diversity and richness of the enterprise agenda.
Unleashing Enterprise believes that enterprise is a skill that can be taught, a skill that can be picked up, improved, honed and applied. Unleashing Enterprise recognises the depth of expertise across the region and seeks to draw together practitioners to help develop these skills to help current and future generations become more enterprising.
