The importance of Leicester’s creative industries sector and how start-ups can work together more effectively will be discussed at an Enterprising Places Network event this month.
Entrepreneurs and businesses are invited to attend the free event entitled ‘Leicester and the creative industries sector – driving enterprise or creating good added value?’ on Wednesday 10 February at Phoenix Square in Leicester’s rapidly developing Cultural Quarter.
Organised by Unleashing Enterprise (the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) supported enterprise programme) in partnership with Enterprise UK the event aims to highlight how providers could work together to ensure prospective entrepreneurs receive the necessary support.
The creation of a business start-up providers network in Leicester, encouraging start-up organisations to work together in partnership, will also be discussed.
Key note speakers will include Dr. Noël James, from the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) – the lead for the creative and cultural sector, Kate Cowan, Business Incubation Offer, at the LCB Depot, and Alison Harrold, Director from TMD. All will share their experiences of encouraging enterprise within the region and offer advice on best practice for creatives.
Chris Shaw, Regional Manager for Unleashing Enterprise, said: “The event aims to give enterprise practitioners the opportunity to learn about new topics, share ideas and build mutually beneficial networks. It will also give us the chance to showcase some of the work that has taken place within the rapidly developing Cultural Quarter.”
The event forms part of the Enterprising Places Network (EPN), a year round programme of events showcasing the impact of enterprise and the role it can play in transforming places and regenerating communities. The Network was inspired by the Enterprising Britain competition, the annual search for the UK’s most enterprising place coordinated by Enterprise UK.
Last year a consortium of local organisations, including The Prince’s Trust, LCB Depot, LeicestHERday Trust and Skills for Enterprise, entered the Leicester Cultural Quarter into EPN. The application focused on a range of business support programmes which had been instrumental in driving support for the creative industries sector in the £50m Cultural Quarter.
The event will run from 10am to 12.30pm, and includes a free lunch.
