East Midlands’ Women: turn your passions into profit!
Women’s Enterprise Day, Wednesday 18 November 2009

Aspiring women entrepreneurs must play a key role in driving the region’s economic recovery and are invited to participate in Women’s Enterprise Day.

Women’s Enterprise Day takes place on 18 November as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. The day profiles successful female entrepreneurs, and motivates other women of all ages to turn their passions into profit.

Supporters of Global Entrepreneurship Week include singer and entrepreneur Beverly Knight, Top Table’s Karen Hanton, model and business women Caprice, Michelle Mone, creator of Ultimo and Hillary Clinton.

Beverley Knight comments: “Everywhere you look, more and more women are taking control of their futures and turning their ideas and dreams into real success stories. I am surrounded by friends and who are living proof of it. By celebrating the achievements of female entrepreneurs, I think Women’s Enterprise Day sends a positive message that no ideas is out of reach; I hope this week will be the starting point for many successful enterprises run by women right across the world.”

Global Entrepreneurship Week takes place from 11-22 November. Alongside more than 80 countries, UK events and activities will put the spotlight on enterprise in local areas and inspire more individuals to make their ideas happen.

Women’s Enterprise day and Global Entrepreneurship Week are co-ordinated by Enterprise UK, the national campaign to give people the skills, confidence and ambition to be enterprising.

Alex Ritchie, Head of Entrepreneurship Now, said: “Women’s Enterprise Day empowers more women to make their ideas a reality, by highlighting the inspirational achievements of the UK’s many success stories and by providing the information and confidence they need to take control today.“

“This year we’re encouraging women to turn their passions into profit by setting up in business, growing existing ventures, or as employees. We want more women to unleash their talents and make their ideas happen!”

Organisations from all over the UK will be hosting events and activities, profiling successful female entrepreneurs and inspiring other women and girls to take control and follow in their footsteps. There are currently around 680,000 women-owned business in the UK generating £45 billion for the UK economy.
