People wanting the best kisses in the country on National Kissing Day (6 July) should go to Surrey as it’s home to the most sensational snoggers in the UK.
Those puckering up in Yorkshire and Norfolk were tongue-tied in second place, with Lancashire’s lip service not far behind.
The results of a nationwide survey conducted by rural dating site kissinggates.com also offered advice for those necking in Nottinghamshire- practice makes perfect. Their efforts failed to make the grade and were named and shamed as the nation’s worst kissers followed closely by those smooching in Shropshire.
“It’s in his kiss, that’s where it is…” according to Cher. Slow, passionate and fresh breath are the most popular requirements for that perfect kiss – so if you can manage all three then you’re onto a winner. Sloppy snogging is the biggest turn off, with smokers also getting the thumbs down.
We’re a nation of confident kissers. Snogging skills might be lacking in some parts of the country, but the majority of men and women across the UK rated themselves highly, only 13% gave their tonsil-tennis tactics nil points.
Are we too polite to complain? Only 10% of people surveyed have been brave enough to tell someone they are a bad kisser, despite almost 80% of women admitting they would finish a relationship due to a partner’s flimsy frenching technique. Only 35% of men would be so harsh….or fussy!
When it comes to smooching in the city, 65% of men showed their British reserve, voting public displays of affection as embarrassing, compared to 27% of women. Only 10% of men and 40% women thought it romantic with slightly more agreeing it’s fine as long as it’s not OTT.
Kiss me quick…more than half have snogged someone within a hour of knowing them. 88% of men are happy for girls to make that first move and, lucky for them, and almost all women have no problem taking the lead (90%).
Kissinggates concluded its survey of 1,000 men and women by asking them which celebrities they’d most like to kiss. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Angelina Jolie topped the men’s ratings on the wish list of famous lips to lock with. The girls were more divided and rated Zac Efron and Simon Cowell equally high in the smooching stakes!
James Vestbirk, Director of Kissinggates.com said: “ We thought we’d canvas our members and the country at large to find out where the best kissers live. We were left open mouthed with the results. It seems that people do need to be a bit more honest with their partners when it comes to getting what they want from a kiss, but it’s quite nice to know that women are taking the pressure off us men and are happy to initiate that all important first kiss!”
