Lincoln in Bloom- Baskets are Back!

Posted in Lincoln BIG on January 29th, 2009

Lincoln Business Improvement Group (Lincoln BIG) is launching a new scheme to help ensure the city centre is a bright and colourful place to be this summer.

Businesses in the Lincoln BIG area who want to help brighten up the city centre, will now be given the opportunity to receive a £50 voucher from Lincoln BIG which can be used towards purchasing a hanging basket from a supplier of their choice.

The scheme will be launched at the Lawn on Friday 16th January, at an event hosted by the Chair of Lincoln in Bloom, Suzanne Sampson.

Lincoln BIG’s Chief Executive, Matt Corrigan, said: “The innovative thing about Lincoln in Bloom this year is that rather than having to source the baskets from a single supplier, we are instead offering our members £50 vouchers which can be taken to a supplier of their choice. This should encourage more businesses to participate in the scheme, and will allow more local suppliers to help make Lincoln a vibrant, diverse and colourful place to be this summer.”

Each £50 voucher can be redeemed towards the cost of a simple basket. Businesses can claim up to two £50 vouchers. If businesses want to install their own baskets and are able to maintain them throughout the season, the £50 voucher can be used to purchase their plants and basket. Florists and other contractors can apply to Lincoln BIG to become an approved supplier and will have to demonstrate that they can keep the hanging baskets watered and fully-maintained throughout the whole season.

The hanging baskets must be placed in the city centre from the first week of June to the last week of September. There will be regular inspections to ensure that regular watering and maintenance are taking place.
