The gardening season traditionally starts at Easter and, despite being the earliest it’s occurred for 130 years, that’s no excuse to delay working outside.
With ground temperatures rarely dipping below freezing during the winter, grass will soon start to grow once the air warms up. Dusty, rusty lawnmowers will have to be unearthed from the garden shed, applied with a little oil and set to work.
However, following a few top tips from John Hall of Mower-Magic.co.uk will soon have lawns looking luxuriously green and soft.
“Take things steady,” advises John. “A bit of careful preparation now will pay dividends later on in the season.”
• Lightly rake over the lawn and remove debris such as twigs and leaves
• Apply moss killer to affected areas
• Aerate compacted soil using a fork
• Check spark plugs on petrol-driven mowers
• Set mower blades higher than normal for the first cut
• Mow once a week to begin with, building up to 2-3 times a week
• Regular mowing stimulates grass health and lushness
• Remove clippings and dispose
• Vary mowing direction to prevent ruts from the mower’s wheels
However, if all this seems a bit too much why not treat yourself and replace that old mower with an automatic Robomow® robotic mower? A full range of models is available to meet every need, from the new Robomow® RM models, specifically built for the smaller urban garden up to the recently launched RL 1000HD model that is ideal for lawns of up to 2000m2.
Full of superb features, the Robomow® can be programmed to mow as often as required, can detect rainfall and even mulches the grass clippings back into the roots, providing essential nutrients to give your lawn the professional look.
