People wanting to really get into the spirit of Earth Hour this Saturday night can sign up for a special ghost walk round historic Lincoln.
Rather than opting for a candle-lit dinner or early night, Margaret Green of the original Lincoln Ghost Walk is hoping to entice people into the city by staging a very special search for ghosts and ghouls during Earth Hour.
Starting as soon as Earth Hour begins – 8.30pm – the walk will take people on a tour of the City, including some of Lincoln’s most haunted areas, which will be even more eerie given the unique lack of lighting.
“Earth Hour will be magical, with both the cathedral and castle along with hundreds of businesses turning off their lights for an hour,” says Margaret Green. “I normally rely on the lighting of these historic buildings to point out some of Lincoln’s haunted areas but this coming Saturday the walk will have a completely different route and very special atmosphere. I think it’s going to be a great experience for those taking part in both the walk and Earth Hour.”
Earth Hour sees people in over 1,110 countries around the world turning off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances in sign of concern over climate change.
Lincoln’s Earth Hour campaign is being spearheaded by Simon Shaw, Director of Optima Graphic Design Consultants, which has worked with the WWF since 2002.
“We’re delighted that the Original Lincoln Ghost Walk is putting on a special evening,” says Simon. “Lincoln will be transformed for one hour and I think it is going to be a really memorable event, with the castle, cathedral, Usher Gallery, the Collection, University of Lincoln, Lincoln Drill Hall and may be as many as 600 businesses all getting involved and turning off their non-essential electricity for sixty minutes. It will be a wonderful and eerie atmosphere in Lincoln on Saturday night but we still want more people to sign up and get involved by staging events themselves.”
