GOLD MEDAL FOR STORMSAVER

Posted in Stormsaver on July 2nd, 2009

In the last six months, a Nottinghamshire company has helped nine schools across the UK to save enough water to fill over four Olympic swimming pools.

Stormsaver, the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of rainwater harvesting systems, has won nine contracts with schools to help them save water, as part of the Government’s scheme to make all new public buildings more energy efficient.

The new school buildings will feature cutting-edge sustainable technology, and will include one of Stormsaver’s rainwater harvesting systems.  Over a year, it is expected that the nine school roofs will capture approximately 12,500 m3 of rainwater, which will be filtered and re-used in the flushing of WCs and urinals.

Lisa Farnsworth, Director at Stormsaver said: “Over the past six years, Stormsaver has installed rainwater harvesting systems in more than 200 educational establishments across the country, demonstrating that authorities are realising the benefits of harvesting rainwater, which include reducing mains water consumption, utility bills and their carbon footprints.

“Alongside these tangible benefits, recent research has also revealed that eco-friendly school designs, incorporating rainwater harvesting, can have a positive influence on learning outcomes, meaning that levels of motivation and achievement can increase from a high quality built environment,” added Lisa.

Stormsaver also provides the schools with a unique educational package, which includes a monitoring unit showing mains water and rainwater consumption, activities, case studies and quizzes, all relating to the National Curriculum.

Many of the recent schools contracts have been awarded under the Building Schools for the Future Scheme.
